Will the Real David Cassidy Please Stand Up?

Self-awareness and self-deprecation: killer combo. Could he be any more irresistible? Compare the David Cassidy in this interview to the one on that Dallas morning show last week (video embedded in my February 6 post). What a difference twenty years make.

He said "I'm a songwriter". I couldn't say that now. He thought of himself as a musician then and took pride in what he was doing...he doesn't think that way now, and it's obvious in his interviews and on stage.

He looked awfully nice in that video. :)

Yep! David looks absolutely gorgeous here.I sure would like to know what happened to the David Cassidy I used to know.(sigh!)

Oh God, I had to listen to that a few times! I had no idea what he was saying as I was too busy drooling over him. Is it really 20 years, it doesn't seem that long. No wonder David seems a little jaded now.

He was a bit cocky back then too but self deprecating with it as you say DD, which is very endearing. Love the Cassidy mannerisms like the lip licking and mad hand gestures! The hand gestures in the newer video are hysterical.

I miss him this way. He was so sweet and so great with the fans, meeting with them. When he did Good Morning America during this same press junket for the Enigma LP, he arrived and told fans he had to get inside but would sign when he came out. Five minutes later he came out and said, "I thought I was late but I'm not on for 30 minutes so I came out to sign now." He did a radio contest winners listening party and he MINGLED around the room with everyone and then he sat and signed for everyone. I really do miss him this way.

Oh, I love hearing of fans' stories of good times with David. Guess he was still relatively young then with so much still ahead of him. I think it's hard on any of us getting older. I dont get male attention anymore! It's even harder for someone like David to deal with and I guess his eccentricities will escalate with age.

BF,I thought many times about that.Certainly,we´re all getting older and as you said the male attention is not at its heyday anymore;-) David in his early years, realized that girls went crazy, ending in hysteric crying, just to touch him.He could read over and over that he was adorable, pretty, sexy, gorgeous, one and only....etc.
That must have been honoring but even terrifying.
When this terrific(most time he enjoyed it,I think) but even exhausting part was over I imagine it must have been really hard to realize that the attraction mostly had gone.

So I agree,it must be even harder for David to deal with a ageing, dacades ago most wanted heartthrob.

Nevertheless this does not excuse his unprofessional behaviour he apparently has.

Just my opinion.

I agree LuckyB, there's no excuse for David's (occassional) bad attitude or unprofessionaly behaviour. As we've all said before, we're aware of David's demons and life experiences but perhaps, in private, he's gotten away with diva-like behaviour for too long and now it's ever increasingly spilling over into his public/professional life. As he's getting older he cant see the wood from the trees. We all agree though, it needs addressing, and urgently.

Yes, please do everyone. I cant pick up that interview or Casey's website here so if anyone can link to the audio or anything, that would be lovely.

Just have to say again how much I like that vid clip of David's interview. Laughed when he said he was neither 21 or 41. Funny guy, hw must have been closer to 41 but you'd never think so looking at him there. He looked younger there than he did in the eighties (well he wasn't meant to be blond was he?).

British fan's comment referring to Casey's website refers to the radio interview David did February 11. Singmedavid provided a synopsis that can be found in the comments here.

Got this from Casey at Penns Peak Radio. I had asked her about a podcast for any fans who may have missed the interview yesterday:

Dear Barbara,
We have had several requests for a re-airing of the interview with David Cassidy, therefore, we have decided to do just that!!! Please inform all of his fans, that Penn’s Peak Radio.com will re-air the recorded interview tomorrow, Saturday the 13th, just after 3pm eastern time. As you know, all they have to do is log on to www.pennspeakradio.com and click on the “listen live” button at the top of the front page and listen away….

Thank you for the request, and I am glad we recorded the interview so we could give his fans a chance to listen to it if they missed it….

Brit Fan, this video of David on this blog is from 1990, so he was 40. Enigma had him grow the shag again to help promote the "David Cassidy" lp they released. They knew it would be a good marketing thing to have him look at close to how he did in the 70's a he could so "fall-offed" fans' memories and love would be rekindled, and younger people would also find him appealing if he didn't look like he was 40. It did work. 1,600 people turned up at Sam Goody record store in Rockefella Center when he did a cd signing in Oct. 1990! 1,000 people had to be turned away from EACH of the two concerts he did at The BOttom Line in Greenwich Village (one of Bruce S's early places!).

Thank you very much for the info about the radio interview Barbara - I will write another entry to notify people.

Thanks also for the info about his shag in the early 90s. It really is his most flattering hairstyle.

Just read a post about the concert last night in Turning Stone, and it seems like it was more of the same. Making excuses for guitars not working, and saying how he was starting not to feel good, and saying that he has no talent. One thing that I thought funny was he said he lost his luggage so he had to wear something he never wears on stage. Black velvet shirt (the one he has on the Texas interviews), and black pants. LOL except for the shirt the rest is the same!! Anyway, it didn't sound much different that what he has been doing lately. Oh, it said at one point he said he wasn't feeling good.

Thanks Anon 11:12, black velvet shirt - bet he looked good in that. Bit worried about the 'not feeling good', he has another concert somewher else tonight. Either excuses for his lack of preparation or he really is jaded and not in a good place. Come on David, pull yourself together man, we love you!

Thanks so much Barbara for the info on the shag regrowth! He did look gorgeous but you know what I always loved the shorter hair just a little more myself. When he cut it off in Australia 1974 - that was my favourite of all time.
There aren't many pictures of that haircut but it was damn beautiful, so thick, you'd want to run your hands through it - yikes I'm getting carried away!

Daydreaming David, do you happen to know the web address of the review Anonymous at February 12, 2010 11:12 PM is referencing?

Thanks!

Singmedavid, perhaps Anon 11:12 is referring to a fan's post? Anon, if it's a "professional" review that you found posted online, could you email me the link please? I can do a separate blog entry for it. Thanks!
