Never. Sure, buddy, whatever you say....

"He's starred on Broadway and London's West End – with Laurence Olivier, no less. He co-starred, with both his brothers, on Ruby & the Rockits , the most expensive television show ever produced by ABC Family. He received an Emmy nomination for "A Chance to Live," the highest-rated episode of Police Story that ever aired. He revamped and starred in the Las Vegas extravaganza EFX.

But with all that, David Cassidy understands – and appreciates – that when people hear his name, the first thing that still comes to mind is The Partridge Family, a television show that appeared in 1970, ran for four seasons and garnered not one Emmy nomination. It was seen as fluff, but its fans were, and remain, fervently loyal.

"It'll never bother me that I'm best-known for that
," Cassidy says with a laugh during a phone interview from Los Angeles.""
Bolding mine, of course. From the article here.

What a bloody hypocrite. Guess it wouldn't do to verbally admit it STILL bothers him. At least not outright, in an interview publicizing an upcoming show, where fans can expect to hear "a lot of songs from the Partridge Family catalog" no less. Wonder how soon we can expect another "that was then, this is now" outburst?

Gotta love the intro to the article. A list of his accomplishments phrased in a way to make us realize that they are vastly superior to the fluff show that was "The Partridge Family". By gosh, ""Ruby & the Rockits" was the most expensive television show ever produced by ABC Family"! Can you imagine how good it must have been?!

By the way, that spring project he'll discuss during next week's radio chat is a movie.

Pretty sure I've already featured "Lyin' to Myself" in one of my posts, so here's "Living a Lie" from his third RCA album from the mid-seventies, "Gettin' it in the Street". That other voice you hear is Gerry Buckley's. "Doesn't really matter" indeed as I doubt he'll play anything from those RCA albums.

Ouch! That biting sarcasm, especially about Ruby being the most expensive so therefore "the best"! LOL!!!! (Love it!) I hate to say this but the first thing I thought of was his salary, but maybe that's not fair.

Gosh, his persistent repetition of his embracing THEN is so frustrating because he contradicts himself so much!!!! I'd love to believe what he says but we all know it's not entirely true. I can just see him "doing what he's told" by his management for the sake of his upcoming concerts. He could find a way to be a little more truthful without alienating fans I think, and even do some other songs besides PF, his own, covers, or even stuff we've never heard that we know he's got. I can see how in some ways he might appreciate THEN, but his actions and statements sometimes do not jive with those declarations.

The author listed his other accomplishments first before mentioning the Partridge Family? What is this world coming to?

There's gotta be a better way to present him in these articles. I never get the feeling that reporters do any research on his work before interviewing him. I mean, that quote? Did she really ask him if it bothered him to be best-known for The Partridge Family?! Seriously, what's the point of asking that? Why not talk about his versatility as a vocalist and talk about his recording career? Mind you, the article is about his upcoming music concert, yet Cassidy is hawking his talents as an actor. For those of us who appreciate his singing, let's hope that movie has a great soundtrack.

Well, we've all been watching DC intently for several months and should know by now that he bends and sways with the wind. Over the years he has chosen projects that might have possible elevated his career again (i.e. the Romance album was of its time)rather than go out on a limb. That's human nature, many artists would do the same.

His people are always going to 'big him up' in publicity for upcoming shows/projects, I think the more the artist needs it(i.e. not such a high profile as in the past), the more boastful it has to be. Saying that Ruby was the most expensive show was a bit ironic, since that could have played a large part in it being cancelled if true.

I wish him luck with the film and hope he actually gets to 'act' rather than sending up his image yet again.

As for his embracing PF 'over the phone', I would have expected that. He has a new project and is full of enthusiasm and hope, that is how his mind works. The 'outburst' came after Ruby was cancelled and he'd just performed a concert whilst ill, he was at a low point.

If the film is successful for him, his moods and attitude to his past will be favourable, if things go wrong, he will be dealing with conflict yet again, but he will bounce back. That is what I admire. People may not always like what they see where DC is concerned, but he does not hide what he is. Yes, he contradicts himself, but that's my point, everyone can see that!! If he were sly and manipulative we would never see it, he would be beguiling and deceitful enough to hide his true thoughts and feelings. The guy wears his heart on his sleeve.

That said, it's just dawned on me that he definitely wont be coming to Engand anytime soon or that any new dates are likely to be posted this year. Shame, doesn't look like I'll be seeing David live any thime soon. I can feel my enthusiasm in all things DC waning a bit as the thought of finally seeeing him in the flesh has kept my interest in the guy at a high for months. But whatever, I wish him well with his acting.

I can't help to think of other artists that have had a career that include TV, Broadway, Movies, Vegas.. ETC.

Cher, for example, has done all these.
Donny Osmond has done all these.

Is it really cool to 'wear you heart on your sleeve' and disengage fans who remember you for one part of your career?

WHen he took a fit at the 'autograph show',he tried to blame the organizers.
His people might not have gave him all the details.
Still there had to be a more polite way to get out of it then to say,'That is not the way I like to be remembered'.

British fan, I understand the need to boast in these types of articles, but good grief, make it legitimate. What does the production cost of a TV show - canceled no less - have to do with a career?

Anonymous, I agree with you: there had to be a more polite (and graceful) way to get out of that autograph show than the way it happened.

I also think that forty years after the PF's debut, it would be feasible for reporters to lay off that aspect of his career in these articles. Why even ask him about it? Seriously? It's as if they cannot acknowledge that the man's talent carried him all this time.

British Fan, you make some very good points. And now the trick is to perceive these statements in context.

The fantastic boasting is annoying, but I guess if you like someone, it seems more tolerable and I do like that he "wears his heart on his sleeve". A big part of my distaste is that so far, I don't like his promoter at all and I blame her for a lot of this crap. But then again, he does do an awful lot of his own promoting so maybe I'm not being fair.

But yes, DD and Anon, it does still bother me that he will not accept responsibility for treating people with respect, regardless of his inner turmoil. Even if he feels less than grateful for PF on some days, he could be honest about that if he felt compelled to be without upsetting people. It does seem like reporters should stop asking him about it. It's just seems like it's become a sort of trap for him at this point.

It also seems like he should stop doing certain things that he obviously doesn't like very much, like the autograph show. It's not fair to fans and the people running the shows.

Reading this interview (and the many other similar ones) is so depressing. How was "Ruby" the most expensive TV show ever produced (by ABC Family)? I enjoyed the shows I saw but it hardly looked high budget - as you say, Singmedavid, the salaries must have been extortionate! Statements like this are way off. I won't hold my breath waiting for the movie - good luck to him/the project, but I've heard him say this sort of thing so many times before where nothing materialises.
