What The Hell?!

"He alone was responsible for 7 chart topping Partridge Family singles." Seriously. That's what it says. Here. In the left window, scroll down.

Cuz, you know, David Cassidy wrote all the songs, sang lead AND background vocals, played all the instruments, produced all the albums and marketed them worldwide. Yup. He alone. Guess he really didn't play well with others. Crap. Who writes this stuff?!?

Also, notice the verb tenses: "...now he has finally returned to where it all started by starring in the latest ABC Family Show “Ruby & The Rockits.” The show stars..." Well, it did just start airing in New Zealand (insert eye roll here.) I'll allow for a typo - they meant "the late ABC Family Show...". Late as in passed away, no longer with us, DEAD. I know, I know, it's just spin. I worked in marketing. UPDATE: SingmeDavid pointed out that this text was most probably written before the tickets went on sales in August and "Ruby" was canceled in early September.

(You're glancing at that b&w pic at the top of this page, aren't you, British Fan?)

Wasn't clear, Bf. Meant the pic on my home page because you said: "I love that picture of him you have on the right DD. I could forgive him almost anything when I look at that."

I hate it that no dates on put on these articles! Why is that? Are you saying this is a recently published article? I would have guessed that this article was published before the tickets actually went on sale on 09/05/2009 so that the Sneak Peak Club could take advantage of the advance purchase of tickets benefit. That would have been before Ruby was cancelled.

Yeah, more thought should have gone into that statement about him being solely responsible for the 7 chart topping PF singles.

David considers himself to be an actor first and foremost? Here's more evidence that he doesn't realize what a great singer he really is. To me he seems like a singer who's also an all-around entertainer and a horse breeder.

Good point, Singme. This intro was most probably written before Ruby was canceled - should have checked the ticket sales date more carefully. Will amend my text to be fair.

Get you with the picture DD. I have forgiven him for cancelling concert dates and not being more upbeat about his career, expecially since seeing that clip of Lying to Myself. He's really had a bum deal in life, can't blame him for being what he appears to be today!

He had a great figure. OK he wasn't beefy but he sure looked mighty delectable in that topless piccy you posted yesterday!

DD, to answer your question, his pr people write that stuff. And we know about his pr people.

Daydreaming David said...

SLK, yeah, I know. I just think it's a bloody cheeky statement to make, even coming from a press agent!

oh, yeah, it's cheeky, alright. In my mind, it reflects on DC directly. Imagine you're a celebrity and your press agent writes something like that about you---wouldn't you be appalled and either fire the person or make them fix it (or both)? David Cassidy has never been a humble person. It's a medium-sized character flaw, and hurts himself more than anyone.

Now, the truth of those PF hits is that they would never have been hits without DC's voice and image---but you can't blatantly state the truth like that without looking like a horse's arse. So they twist it and say he was responsible for them. He looks like a horse's arse anyway, but only to people like you and me who know better and care to look closely enough at what they say.

If I weren't a DC fan and read this, the last thing I'd do is buy tickets. As has been said so often, he needs new PR people.

As much as I think DC's talent never got its proper due back then, that statement really grates. If The PF had stayed with the original formula of John Bahler singing lead and no DC singing, I agree, those pop songs, as great as they are, wouldn't have become the massive hits they were. DC brought the star factor to the mix, no question about it. But to write "he alone" as if no one else was involved in the process...ugh.

Besides, don't know why he's tooting his horn so much as a music hit-maker when he considers himself "first and foremost" an actor. Maybe it's the Canadian in me, but lack of humility (in this context) is a big character flaw.

Let's see if we can come up with a less offensive way of taking all the credit for the charting singles. How about: "Cassidy's irresistible star power generated seven chart-topping singles for The Partridge Family." That's the first thing that came to mind. If I'd kept my thinking hat on longer, I'm sure I could have come up with something even more congratulatory and elegant.

"He alone..." is seriously puke-worthy.

Please tell me what they said. Are his people saying David wrote and produced the PF hits himself?

Still can't access the hyperlinked page, Bf? The sentence that offended my Canadian humility gene is from the DC bio on the Penn's Peak site announcing his upcoming concert. (We assume his PR people write that stuff.) This is part of the bio with the offending "He alone" statement:

"The Partridge Family premiered in 1970 and, by the end of the year, David Cassidy had the #1 selling single of the year, record of the year, multiple Grammy nominations and a Golden Apple Award. As a matter of fact, David became so popular that membership in his fan club exceeded those of Elvis Presley and The Beatles. This was just the beginning of his record breaking career. To date, his records have sold well over 30 million copies worldwide and are recognized with more than 24 Gold and Platinum recordings. He alone was responsible for 7 chart topping Partridge Family singles.

Along with his musical accomplishments, David still believes himself to be an actor first and foremost."

Thanks. Poor sod. Still wants to be an actor then, even though he sings mostly. That's his doing though, oops I'm not going down that road again.
