Be My Ba-bay

Just discovered the Partridge Family's "Mystical Lady" on YT. Thanks to david41250 for posting it and creating a slideshow with seldom-seen images (it includes that great shot Henry Diltz took of him with Schwarzenegger at 0:33).

The song is no great shakes - don't think it was ever featured in an episode either - but David Cassidy's voice still makes it listenable for me. Actually, the chorus hints at a pretty rockin' tune if the song could be let loose. For anyone interested, it's on "David Cassidy's Partridge Family Favorites", an album released in 1998 on Slamajamma, DC's own record label at the time. If you have a copy of the album, could you share any available songwriting credits?

Good find DD. Uploaded on 31 December. I really like this!! It's very catchy. Always nice to see a few new pictures too.

Hi DD, I didn't expect much of the song after your first comment, but I like it. It makes me miss the good old days. I'm feeling very nostalgic after having turned 50 in December. And old - spotted a gourgeous 30-something while waiting for hours at the airport. That is of course beside the topic once again, what happened? How is it possible that it's almost 40!!! years since the days when I was madly in love with David?

I like this song. It's very late-60s/early 70s pop in feel, and there are no drum machines or disco beats or dumb choruses. Plus it's his young voice. What's not to like?

Well, when you put it that way, SLK.

MaeB, I know what you mean. It's dizzying how quickly time goes and crazy how forty years ago (thirty in my case) feels like yesterday.

Happy New Year, everyone! And Happy Birthday MaeB! I also turned 50 in November. I know how you feel about spotting all these hunky younger men I feel too old for. LOL!

I can't see this video right now. It says an error occurred. I even went out to YouTube to see if I could watch it there but I got the same error. Hopefully I'll be able to view it soon! It's sounds great based on all of ya'all's descriptions!

OMG!!! I am crazy about this song!!! I haven't heard this before. "Yes, I've been thinkin' 'bout lovin' with yewwww." ... "There ain't nothin' that I'd rather do...Then to spend time lovin' with yewww." "Nobody does me the way that you do me." The way he growls out "C'mon, c'mon now be my baby."

Some of those pictures are stunning. And it has some of those sexy NOW pictures of David. I absolutely adore that picture at the end where he's singing to Sue. I wonder what he was singing there and where that was. She must be that mystical lady. Dang.

This is making me want to run a few miles to work off all this excitement. LOL! I can't believe this was a PF song.

LOL! Singme, you're getting me all excited too. This is a great tune. Does anyone know if it was featured in a PF episode? It's so exciting when unknown gems like this turn up.

Daydreaming David said...

Nope, it was never featured in a PF episode. It seems only available on DC's Partridge Family Favorites which you can buy on his site: http://www.davidcassidy.com/store.html
(too lazy to make the fancy link, sorry. Just copy and paste, ok? :))

Hi. I just peeked on David's official website store and am I correct in stating that the only way to get DC's Partridge Family Favorites is with the Old Trick, New Dog package and $100? Geez...

Daydreaming David said...

Yeah, the CD is available with that package. Finding it pricey, are you?

You bet, DD!!

I've listened to this a few times and the song has grown on me. It is truly of a time (ie. 1970-ish) so an early David recording, but it's so nostalgic and the sound of his voice takes me back to when I first noticed him, which I quickly realise is close to 40 years ago - pretty scary!
