Teen idols and hysteria

Here's a little clip of Dusty Springfield asking a couple of Beatles some very important questions. The most important one is at 1:00. ;-)

That was brilliant! Yeah, continuous screamers take note! Weren't the Fab Four fab! My mother loved them and so do I. I've always been drawn to John Lennon, not for looks, but for his charisma, charm, sense of humour and his work as a peace activist. A sad loss.

He had many qualities that David admired and similar issues in childhood (abandonment by his father, his mother killed in a road accident when he was a teen). I think he meant as much to David as David means to us.

These guys were innocent and having fun at this stage in their career a little like the early clips of David. I loved the way David always licked his top lip with his tongue when being interviewed. He did it way back then and still does it now. What a seriously s*xy habit to have. Someone MUST post a clip on youtube full of David lip-licking moments! With a suitable warning attached. e.g. Might Cause Heart Failure!

A few lip-licking good moments in this video ;-), but yes, a video of JUST those moments...sigh. Note to self: learn how to create videos.

Guess I hadn't seen enough early interview clips of The Beatles to really get the whole teen idol thing - in this clip, I get it. And Paul was the cute one.

John Lennon's father was a merchant seaman who did send checks home. When he came home Julie was pregnant with another man's child.
I just like the term 'abandoned'. Many fathers have to be away from home because of work etc.
John Lennon was one of them. Just ask Julian.

Back to topic.
The Beatles are a good example of a group of a group that did transition from being marketed as teen idols to doing more serious work.

I always was more particular to George. He was always so humble.
I remember that the Beatles didn't profit from the merchandising that took place at the beginning of their careers. One of those things they didn't anticipate.

Thanks Anon. I wasn't privvy to the whole story of John's upbringing. But I remember his father did disappear to foreign shores and only came back in his life when he became famous (or maybe I got that one wrong too). So much for the media! The point I was trying to make was that they had similar issues to deal with.

It's funny you bring that up British Fan, because I've noticed and LOVED that too. It's so ... male. He does do it quite a bit! :-) Yes, "may cause heart failure." VERY sexy.

Haven´t noticed this before...

Mostly looking at his sparkling eyes,which he still has today! And his drop-dead gorgeous smile!!
LOVE that!

John has said in interviews that his dad only turned up when he was famous and tried to capitalize on being John's dad with interviews and he even put out a single in the 60's. John was cordial to his dad but basically that was it. Julian has gone on his own website to state that he has very mized feelings about John. Whenever someone comes up to him to tell him how his dad inspired them and what a good father he to stay home caring for Sean, Julian has stated that they are talking about John Lennon the Beatle but that for him John Lennon is the father who let him down in many ways. He has come to terms with it and he has a website that deals with the history of the Lennon family. He has also said that after his father passed he tried to have a relationship with his only sibling, Sean, but letter that he wrote to Sean were never given to Sean. And Julian had to actually buy in auction some things that belonged to his Dad because his stepmother had rather put them in auction than give them to John's first son. He & Sean did get to finally connect during Sean's European concert tour a few years ago when Julian traveled around with him for a bit. But when reporters contact him for a comment when the anniversaries of his dad's passing comes up, Julian says he says very little or refuses the reporter all together due to his still mixed feelings.
