They're Going to be Teen Idols!!!

Who? Those AI contestants mentioned in my previous post. Seems that for every show, there is a theme to help them select a song to perform. This past show's theme was "The Rolling Stones", aka the "butcher-iconic-rock-songs-show", and the next one will be "teen idols" (can't find an official press release, sorry). Hmm. Guess the powers that be WERE inspired by the buzz that Urban looks like a young Cassidy.

How much shall we bet that someone will pick "ITILY" to sing? It's almost a given, isn't it? How much cooler would it be if someone tried their voice at a lesser known Partridge Family song or a David Cassidy solo one? Actually, one of DC's biggest hits isn't that well known in the States and might be an interesting choice for an AI contender: "Daydreamer". Could any of them lend it the right amount of wistfulness without turning it into a saccharine mess? Mr. Urban?

How far back will they go for their teen idol inspiration? The forties, fifties, sixties? Thinking of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Ricky Nelson, The Beatles... Surely they won't bypass the seventies with The Jacksons, The Osmonds, DC and Shaun Cassidy?!? Someone HAS to pick David Cassidy. He is, as we say in French, incontournable. A teen idol mountain that can't be bypassed. If he is, it would be a damn shame.

I just might tune in next week. Oh, and here's DC giving Terry Dempsey's "Daydreamer" just the perfect forlorn notes. (Wouldn't you just love to know what he's saying around the 0:30 mark?)

Interesting that the next programme will focus on teen idol songs. Not following this at all but no doubt songs from Donny and David will feature, probably earlier teen idols. Wasn't Frank Sinatra the very first?!

Thanks for picking my fav. vid of David, you could pluck him from this, deposit him here today and he wouldn't look out of place - phwoar!! The clothes, the face, the hair, he's just timeless here, perfect boyfriend for any discerning young lady! I dreamed of being on his arm there when I was younger, how could any boy/man live up to that image!

Let's video this one in next week, show them what they have to live up to but never will.

Actually, depending on how many boys are in the competition, they cant get all the teen idols in can they? They might let Tim Urban do David since the similarity has already been mentioned, guess there's a chance David wont be included. Wonder who the girls will get, Britney et al, yuk, hate girl teen idols. Worst case scenario, one of the girls gets to sing David's signature tune - nooooooo!

I don't think they'll allocate songs according to the original teen idol's gender. And I've a feeling they'll be dipping into the more recent pool of teen idols because "Puppy Love" might be too tame for their audience ;-)

When I read this I took another look at Urban, but you just can't compare them. I mean, watch the clip: our beautiful babyface with the unique voice that "makes your fur raise" (like a famous Swedish skier used to say when he commented especially exciting races in TV.

You are so right, British fan, David would be outstanding from the first second he entered the stage if you placed him there looking and singing as he does in the clip.

And I am completely objective, of course.

Had to watch this vid one more time _ I'm away this weekend, no computer! Don't you just love his clothes? They're so perfect, the jeans, with the patches, fit in all the right places! Love his shirt, jacket and shoes. What about when he's shuffling around in the car, LOL! So sweet, killer smile absolute perfection.

Now David looks so natural and relaxed in this video. I think we're seeing the real David here. The NICE real David. In spite of all the cr*p he spouted after retirement about how 'lame' his image was he's looking like a lovely young man here and I'd stick my neck out and say he's being real. Why, forever after this, did he believe it was so 'cool' to reject this image, say it wasn't really him and protest he wasn't 'nice' at all. Very immature and lacking in confidence. What's 'cool' about wanting to be perceived as a 'bad boy' anyway? Nothing actually. I fear he's always been a bit foolish to reject his past and image so vehemently. I'm sure he would have always been like this if he hadn't been carrying so much 'baggage' around with him. xxx

I agree with you, British Fan. Wow - I LOVE that word - "phwoar"!!!! That's even being flagged by my spell checker. Seems very esoteric, or perhaps it's used more in the UK? Thanks for that. And "incontournable". I love that too, DD. SO TRUE!!!

I hope Urban does do a Cassidy song, but yeah, they might stick to more recent idols. I'm trying to think of one that would fit Tim's voice and singing style since it is more country.
