Who Knew?

Wayne Newton also recorded "Echo Valley 2-6809". It really is a good song. I much prefer The Partridge Family's version though.

Incidentally, hope no one feels old knowing DC turned 60 yesterday. Sixty is the new fifty, dontcha know? ;-) (Want a secret for staying young? Weight training. Gives you strong bones too.)

Mm, mm, hmmm. :-) I love David's version. I love the way his hazel-green sparkly eyes are accented by that purple printed shirt.

I just read that Wayne's voice was considered a high tenor. So I guess David's would be either a medium or low tenor? But he seemed to be able to sing in the full tenor range and even outside of it on both ends.

Wow, like we've never skipped a beat. LOL!

The fact that DC is 60 and Wayne is 68 might not make much difference to a lot of people.
Wayne has had his shared of cosmetic work done on himself, as David has had.
What makes Wayne more appealing is the fact that he has never dissed his core base.
Why DC makes his career out to be more than what it is or was is amazing?

Anonymous: if you find Wayne Newton more appealing than David Cassidy, find yourself a Wayne Newton blog. Life's too short to spend it on those who annoy us.

DD; must agree with you here..What's the point of comparing Wayne Newton to David Cassidy? Both great entertainers, but very different. DC doesn't need cosmetic work..He appears to have always looked and performed as an individual that is much younger physically than his actual age. You may
notice some people look 20 years older/younger than their actual age; due to genetics, environment, exercise, stress, attitude, diet, etc. David Cassidy is actually a nice advertisement for growing older beautifully and gracefully.

Hi, nice to see some new posts DD!

I've never heard of Wayne Newton so I'll go and do some investigating. I never thought any other artist would cover any of these songs (apart from ITILY).

New Fan you're correct that David doesn't/didn't need any surgery. His face has always looked young and I loved the creases/folds/lines he was acquiring, it all added to his mature handsomeness. However, he has definitely had some procedures done and I pray he does no more! Less is more in David's case!

BF, you're making me feel old by saying you've never heard of Wayne Newton....but I love this song and I don't think anyone could do it justice except DC. I don't understand why but the first 2 lines instantly prick my eyes with tears. Must conjure up some subliminal memories..??!! "We grew up together, with ferris wheels and sunshine, laughter". The lower tone he takes on the first line just grabs my stomach and then....It's been, what...40 years since I first heard it and it affects me more now....

Tracey, I have to agree with you about those first two lines DC sings. I've yet to find a song from back then where he doesn't give the opening lines the perfect expression. "Echo" - hardly one of my faves - is a particularly evocative song. "Ferris wheels and sunshine laughter": who isn't immediately transported to a childhood summer with that line?!
