What becomes a teen idol most?

Why, a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air King, of course.

Let's just file this under wtf, okay? Excuse the crass language. This page popped up in a "non-Google but powered by Google" search and honestly, it looks like one of those dynamic sites that returns its hawked wares with your celebrity search name and corresponding bio "cleverly" inserted in the text. Or maybe David Cassidy's publicist really got him this endorsement deal.

Hey, at least they used a relatively current shot of David. He's looking quite tasty and sophisticated.
They don't say David has a Rolex, lol, wonder if they gave him one?

Now you've gone and brought back one of my nightmares. A video I found on yt which nearly put me off. It was one of the first I found, poor me. I don't know if he was taking the p*ss (sorry). I thought it was a comedy sketch at first. Show it if you dare DD. The infamous David Cassidy on HSN (Home Shopping Network).

British fan said...

What AM I thinking? This is one of those Noooooooooo!!! moments. Don't link it. This yt clip deserves to stay in the abyss. I've forgiven him that one.

The one where he's wearing a girdle and enough mascara to bankrupt L'Oreal?

Yeah, let's not remember that one.

Daydreaming David said...

BF, I forgot to mention: I found another voice for my challenge if you want to have a peek and listen.

MaeB said...

Compared to that Home Shopping-thing this is really classy! But I wonder a little about those hit films?
Have you noticed his publicist's latest PR-move? David is now on Facebook! Wonder if that site will be managed just as professionally as the two other ones.

Daydreaming David said...

MaeB, let's not be mean, now ;-) I actually checked out her site today and she represents the interests of "The Rate Pack is Back". You've heard of that show, n'est-ce-pas? I wonder how long that typo's been there. There is also a page that gives the impression that you can scroll down to read the unfinished text but the page is static and you never find out the end of the story. She's referred to as "a seasoned professional in the PR business" on one site that discusses her new book though.

British fan said...

LMAO!!!I wouldn't have been cruel enough to mention the mascara and girdle. Whoops, I just did. He looked like he'd just been revived by Dr Frankenstein. Such a cheese fest. Oh dear!
Shut up now British fan. I love him really!

British fan said...

Thanks DD. I just re-visited your challenge page and left a message. Billy did have a good voice, almost forgot about him.

Well DC's reprentation is becoming a bit of a joke isn't it? Well the botched meet n greets aren't but the rest is. I shudder to think she was responsible for his appearance on HSN. He might have had a back problem. See no other reason for that 'thing' visible through his shirt. The guy's enviably slim and needs no help there. Enough of that.

Back to the drooling......

singmedavid said...

Yes, that HSN clip is ridiculous!!! We'd all be better off not having seen it. Ugh! I actually had the fantasy that wasn't David, but an alien trying to impersonate him so he would look more earthly. Didn't quite pull it off, did he? :-)

Daydreaming David said...

You all crack me up. Thank you for your comments.

I'm going to look into this Rolex thing a bit further because, I'm sorry, the page looks bogus to me.

Daydreaming David said...

Three other things bugged about the page: "David Cassidy is remembered for his ...and great musical symphonies". Musical symphonies? The other was: "Very few people are aware that he is the son of the famous actor Jack Cassidy and his mother was the beautiful Evelyn Ward." Has his mother passed away? And finally: very few people? The younger generations might not know his parents' names but I doubt many of his fans' generation have forgotten who his parents were. Very few makes it seem like only a couple of hundred people which I'm sure is not the case.

Actually, a fourth thing bugs: "He currently co-stars...in the 2009 comedy series entitled "Ruby..." Technically not untrue, but this page was posted November 10th.

SLK said...

Where's the clip of the girdle on HSN? That, I gotta see. Can someone post it?

Daydreaming David said...

SLK, don't go there. Really. You might need to bleach your memory cells.

Don't say we didn't warn you.

SLK said...

Ooh, that's bad. Too much hair product. And mascara. And a girdle? I don't get it.

I've read interviews where DC insists he hasn't had plastic surgery, but I don't see how that's possible. About 3-5 years ago, his face definitely changed. His cheekbones are more prominent now, and especially in that HSN clip, his skin looks tight to me. It's the same kind of work Barry Manilow had done (only he's much worse!!!). Does anyone else agree?

And I think he had his teeth filed down, or something. The old snaggle-toothed smile is gone, but his teeth look so much smaller to me now than they were back then---like he smiles and you barely see his teeth anymore, when before they were dazzling.

I don't mind a handsome face that's aged. Paul Newman was beautiful right up until the end. Robert Redford would look better now if he had stayed out of the sun more, but it's still his real face we see, and it's nice to see the real him and not some plastic fake version.

Oh well. I guess it's a problem we'll all be dealing with soon enough ourselves...

British fan said...

Yes I agree with you SLK.I've talked this over with others. He would look way more handsome now if he aged naturally. He was SO very handsome, lines and a few bags and sags wont matter at all.

Like you stated, it looked great on Newman. There's so much more virility and sex appeal in a natural face.

David's lost some of his appeal around the eyes, they're kind of squinted up. I hope he doesn't feel pressured to keep looking young, it's not fair. And if it's vanity, stop now please!

SLK said...

I have a feeling it's vanity. He's always worn jewelry (which is just fine by me---he ROCKED the pukah shell necklace) and you always see him with his shirts halfway unbuttoned. We know he dyes his hair, and I don't mind that, but there are times (especially lately, like on Ruby) when he gets the coloring wrong, and it's lighter at the ends than it is at the roots. This happens to me sometimes and it's a tell-tale sign of dyeing. Any good colorist can fix it.

Poor guy. At least we women get to keep our hair. That must have been a sledgehammer to the ego for him.

SLK said...

I meant to say *darker* at the ends than at the roots...

British fan said...

Men win with their bottoms, bums, butt or whatever. David's is as tight as the peach he had when younger. I hate men! Ours get all saggy and droop downwards!

Alicia said...

That HSN clip always made me think of Roy of Siegfried and Roy. He does need to stop with the eye work!

British fan said...

Noooooooo!! lol. Siegfried and Roy have definitely overdosed on the surgery. David please stop. They all start to look the same don't they? Permanently arched eyebrows and laughing eyes like the Joker from Batman.

Daydreaming,
As far as I have been following the Cassidys, People have always mention that Evelyn Ward has dementia and is some home in California.

Its a little touchy about what the relationship is with David.

There is a 'myspace', she was a good looking woman

http://www.myspace.com/evelynwardcom

Here is Jack Cassidy's myspaces.

http:/www.myspace.com/astarforjack

www.myspace.com/jackcassidynet

Daydreaming David said...

The prominent cheekbones we see on celebrities of a certain age can be due to fillers (e.g. Juvederm, Restylane brand names). They're not considered plastic surgery but rather cosmetic work and they're injected by dermatologists.

cao said...

Its is funny about Seigfried and Roy/Casidy. TMZ actually did a bit about it.

Daydreaming David said...

cao, I'm reading your message and wondering what it has to do with David endorsing Rolex and then it hits me. I asked a rhetorical question about his mom passing away based on poor wording in that jeweler's ad and this is your way of updating me on the state of David's mother. So, thanks, I think.

Checked out the Evelyn Ward MySpace page and it creeped me out. Who runs it and what's the point of it? Didn't check out Jack Cassidy's MySpace pages because I know he's passed away and I understand even less the point of having a MySpace page for him. I don't think I "get" Facebook, MySpace and its ilk AT ALL so I apologize if my comments offend anyone. It's me, not you.

cao said...

Michelle Montour runs both myspaces.
As you can see it says courtesy of RyanCassidy.com.
Michelle used to work for Ryan Cassidy and she is also the head of STARFORJACK.org.

I think the Evelyn Ward myspace started when people were concerned about Evelyn's health. She has dementia. Shirley and her sons visit her.

Shirley donated some very nice pictures for the Star for JACK (they are collecting for Jack to have a star on the walk of fame).
All the Cassidys, except Ryan, have a myspace.
Ryan did have one but took it down.

Sorry for confusing you.

Daydreaming David said...

Thanks for the info. Any idea when the welcoming message was posted? I don't see a corresponding date for what seems like a cut and pasted text:
"First, Ryan and I both want to thank everyone for their concern for this wonderful lady. I spoke with him last night and he let me know that, sadly, she is indeed in declining health. She is in her 80s and, as David shared in his new book, is suffering from dementia. But, bless her, she is still with us and his holding on. Again, I want to thank everyone for their well wishes. It is definitely appreciated. I will update you as I know more."

Also, is that a picture of Evelyn Ward under "Contacting EvelynWard.com"?

I just find MySpace an odd choice with its one-size-fits-all template (e.g. Who I'd like to meet) to keep the curious updated.

cao said...

I guess David's book came out like 3 years ago so I guess it was around them.
I think the trouble was that people were going to David's site and asking questions and they weren't getting a response.
I know that Shirley and her kids have mentioned visiting Evelyn.

Michelle mentioned to me that once she was writing a book about Jack.
Michele had to stop because she had other issues, but she did speak to Evelyn (in better days) and Michele told me what a nice lady she was.

As you could see, the other Cassidy's have a myspace.
You are right, myspace has a one size fits all template.

Daydreaming David said...

Well, guess people are coming to another site now and still not getting any answers. Up to date answers in any case.

I think that part of the trouble may be people believing they deserve a response for whatever their curiosity begs.

singmedavid said...

I am practically rolling out of my chair reading all these comments...tears are streaming down my cheeks. lol...omg, thanks for making my morning, and night. You all are the brilliant!!!

I agree, David, PLEASE STOP!!!! ;-0

I don't know DD, unfortunately I think only time and a lot of it will render that HSN memory unreachable. Maybe shock therapy. Not a pretty site.

And Siegfried - frightening!!!! David looks much better than that, even on HSN I think. :-0 But you know I'm NOT going to renew that memory by going to check it out.

Daydreaming David said...

Double dare, ya? ;-)

singmedavid said...

DD, I agree, there's something off about that article. I think you are right, it was dynamically created based on your search. Hmmm. Searchers beware.

Alicia said...

I agree about Evelyn's myspace, I don't see the need for it.

singmedavid said...

NO WAY!!! I didn't dare look at it earlier today when BF first mentioned it, and I won't do it now!! LOL! I want to have sweet dreams tonight of David in the early to mid-90s, not that crude impersonation of him. I'm sorry, was that mean? I don't want to be mean. But please, let that memory be erased already!!!! Ugh! :-0

Anonymous said...

Did any of you take a close drill down look at the Rolex website? There are alot of celebrities on there and every article begins the exact same way and is followed by a biography of the celebrity. They must just pick a celebrity of the month and write about them because none of them are wearing Rolex's or endorcing the product. What a silly gimmic.

Daydreaming David said...

You're right, Anonymous 11:00 pm.

cao said...

Alicia,
If you page down on Evelyn's myspace you will see that people wrote a lot of nice notes to her.
Joining her myspace would only let one leave a message or, in case of an update, let the group of people who are concerned any updates.
I could see the reasons for concern because David lives in Florida and he is her only child and she is in California.
As for Jack's myspace, they are collecting for a star so that is appropriate.

Daydreaming David said...

cao, Evelyn Ward's MySpace page doesn't seem to have been updated for at least a year. What guarantee does anyone who leave a message on that page have that said message will make its way back to Ms Ward? And what does David living in Florida and his mother living in California have to do with anything? David's fans being that interested in his mother is a tad odd to me. Be a fan of the performer all you want but his family is his family. This social networking stuff has made instant accessibility the norm and fans become "friends" with a performer, thinking this entitles them to access to the performer's family. It shouldn't. Anyway, no need to discuss David and his family here. Not the point of the thread.

cao said...

DD,
It was asked about Why there is a myspace and why fans are asking about it.
I talk to a David fan and DC talks about his mother(on stage) like she is dying.
Why does he put that out there if he doesn't want people talking about his family?
I could see where his fans would be concerned.
My guess is that the situation hasn't changed.
They have all the Cassidy myspaces connected.
Like I said, maybe it was a demanded for responses to her condition.

SLK said...

cao has also joined one of Beau's social pages (Facebook, YouTube, I forget which one), which I think is creepy and a bit sociopathic. I totally agree it's weird to have such an interest in a celebrity's family.

Cao, will you please, for once and for all, please STOP talking about the Cassidy family? Daydreaming is absolutely right. His family doesn't belong in these discussions. Even if you might think so. It's just weird and inappropriate.

Sorry, all. I was just a little too annoyed there for a moment.

Daydreaming David said...

Thank you, SLK. My point, cao, is that Evelyn Ward's health is none of our friggin' business. David mentioning his mother's health between songs is not an all-access pass into his private life. It's stuff like this that elicits and warrants "get a life" comments.

cao said...

THe only thing I did was point out why the Cassidy's put up a myspace for Evelyn.

I didn't do it. Its there.

I just responded to a question if Evelyn was still alive.

Cheri Corwin (she has a lot of Cassidy myspaces set up) and a she is a one of Beau's friends on Facebook and myspace.
Tell her she is sick for getting news on them and posting it.

If you don't want people inquiring stop talking about things in concert, stop talking about the story of your life,
People won't ask!

Barbara Pazmino from Just David Fan Club was very close with Evelyn for over 20 years and visited her home whenever she went to Los Angeles, or when Evelyn came to NY, and they spoke on the phone on a regular basis. Barbara said she spoke to Evelyn the day after she was brought to the hospital. She has some nice accounts of her friendship with Evelyn, apparently Evelyn was very supportive of Barbara.

From what I heard, Ryan Cassidy said he no longer wanted a presence online and requested that his website and myspace page be discontinued.

Anyway, regarding David's representation, Scott at the Cmon Get Happy board just posted links to various blogs that show how imcompetent Jo-Ann is in other dealings.

DD said: David's fans being that interested in his mother is a tad odd to me. Be a fan of the performer all you want but his family is his family.

The thing with fans and David's mother go back years to the 70's because Evelyn actually used to correspond letter with any fans who wrote her, so I think that is the connection with her to fans. She also would let fans come in her home in NJ in 1971. I've seen fan photos taken in the West Orange home with Evelyn.

I don't 'do' myspace or facebook and never look at them. I hear some weird stuff about these places. These blogs are more comfortable and sane places. At least I think (hope) your're all sane!

I promised my kids I wouldn't join facebook. They have to have somewhere to get away from me. LOL!

Anon 2.24

The reason that Ryan doesn't have a myspace or internet presence is that Ryan recently got married and from what I hear his current wife didn't like it.

Shirley even mentions Evelyn on her website sayinf that she visits her.

I went to see Carrie Fisher the other day at her Broadway. I know that her friend Penny Marshall is sick. I said to let her know we are thinking about her.
Some people like to get these messages.

Daydreaming David said...

cao, you responded to a rhetorical question about Evelyn Ward. You didn't answer the question: you just gave us a link to "her" MySpace page. And if I understand correctly, the site was NOT put up by a Cassidy, but by Michele Montour who used to work for Ryan Cassidy.

From what I understand, Cheryl Corwin helps publicize the Cassidys' work. Becoming "friends" with them on Facebook and the like works in this context.

Now, about David fans' interest in his mother. I knew that some fans corresponded with her in the seventies and it's natural for them to want to have news about her and extend their good wishes. Perhaps MySpace is a good way to do this - I'm not sure. The current page doesn't seem very current.

It's the "fans" who never established a relationship with the woman yet make assumptions about David's relationship with her that I find odd. Take yourself, cao, for example. It's not the first time you've brought up his mother in these threads. Twice now you've mentioned that David lives in Florida while his mother lives in California, "hinting" at allegations of neglect on his part. It's comments like those that I find inappropriate. Because when it comes right down to it, if you're not privy to news about someone's family, chances are good that you have no right to be. This is what I meant when I said that Evelyn Ward's health is none of our business.

There is nothing wrong with expressing concern for Ms Ward's health - it's a caring and compassionate gesture. I'm sorry if my statements could be interpreted to mean the opposite and I apologize if I've offended anyone by being less than clear.

I'm taking too much time addressing your inappropriate and illogical comments, cao. From now on, I will simply delete them.

cao said...

DD,
Michelle Montour is the one who worked on Ryan's site.
Michelle did not do this on her own. It said 'Ryan and I' are both concerned for this wonderful lady.
If you scroll down on that page you will see the other Cassidy Links and the people that have written Evelyn messages. The last one was written April 10,2009 for Easter. There are 364 comments.
I only wanted to let you know that she was still alive becuase the wording said 'was the son'.
I didn't mean for that to blow up, just informative.
I talk with people who are fans.
I know you are getting into the process.
I thought it was a positive that David's fans care about her.

Alicia said...

I also heard that Ryan started to feel uncomfortable about his site.
In Evelyn's case, IMHO, if David wants to provide an update, he can have that done on his website.

cao said...

Alicia,
David does not maintain his own site, other people do that for him.
I have heard more than once where he talks about his mother like she is dying.
There is some confusion among his fans about he state.
Maybe the woman likes to get these messages.
As for Ryan, he has worked with Michelle for years.
The real reason he gae up the website was because his wife didn't like it.

Alicia said...

Cao, I know David doesn't maintain his own site, when I said he can have it done on his website, I meant he could have a message posted as he does from time to time. I have talked to David about the internet and his web site and know he's not that involved. Having David tell fans at concerts how his mother is doing is one thing, to have someone who asked to run a web site for his brother volunteer to run a website for David's mom (not Ryan's mother) is totally different.
I notice you believe what you want to believe when it comes to things said on the internet.
