"I'm no Diva" - David Cassidy Apologizes?

The National Enquirer - probably the only publication to have reported "David's Sunday Disaster" - printed David Cassidy's "apology" in their latest issue. You can view it on the C'mon Get Happy Site - Scott posted it on November 12 at 11h45 pm. Tried to upload the article image here but it's not as legible.

Note to David Cassidy and his management: this is not an apology; this is an excuse along the lines of "poor me, can't you see it's not my fault if I acted like a jackass?". Shame on David Cassidy's management to enable him to disrespect his fans this way. First, he blamed the fans and now he blames the event's organizers. So many other ways this could have played and turned out well. Copyright issues with pictures? Fine, don't sign those. Sign the other memorabilia that fans from far and wide brought you to sign, thirty-five years after your fame's peak. Can't shake hands or pose with fans because you've got the flu? Not a problem. We understand. You're a trooper for showing up in that condition, thank you for minimizing the contagion risks but most of all, thank you for making our dream of meeting you a reality.

By the way, Mr. Cassidy, explaining the refusal to sign Partridge Family photos with "That was then; this is now" at an autograph and memorabilia show IS diva (sic) behavior.

One of those posts on the Get Happy site talked about how much money some of the celebrities at that show have made---Carrie Fisher made $25,000, I think, and Val Kilmer made $150k! (how in the world did he do that??) Anyway, it said Henry Winkler went and then donated all his takings to charity. I thought that was so cool. (get it, cool, the Fonz? tee hee) If Cassidy really wanted to turn this all the way around and come out the hero, that's what he would do. He won't, of course. Sad for him.

It's definitely kind of a rubber-necking feeling reading those Get Happy threads---DC acts like a brat, his publicist acts like a moron, and some of the fans are seriously emotionally involved in the whole thing. And yet I keep following the story to see what happens next.

Rubber necking, that's great SLK! Yes, I guess I'm one of the one's emotionally involved. I'm concerned there are some other things going on with him that maybe are not as much in his control as he and everyone close to him would like to believe. I also wonder sometimes if they are purposely being blind to exploit him. I know that's really cold. But the publicist??? My gosh, when is he going to wake up and get rid of her?!!!! He seems so out-of-touch with reality.

singmedavid,
This Joann Geffen is friends with David's wife Sue.
I know that a lot of people credit Sue for keeping David working, but I was hearing things about Joann and Sue pushing David into some things for the money, David doesn't like it and then he acts up.
I don't know what David's finances are but being into the race horse business isn't cheap and like Danny says, David loses money on it.
In the past, when David acted up in certain shows, they have use the obnoxious fans as an excuse.
They never really apologize.
I am just telling you what I heard.

The plot sickens. DC's rep has just been nailed to the wall. There's proof that Cassidy's publicist knew about the photos that were getting used days before the convention took place.

http://cmongethappy.com/bulletin/viewtopic.php?t=3072

The publicist for the promoters even tried to protect DC from the media after this happened. You said it right on an old post when you said with a publicist like DC has, who needs bad press!

Geffen is betting that she can just repeating their story and that the whole thing will blow over. I'm inclined to agree (that it will blow over). This is not national news. Our military is fighting all over the world, we have 10% unemployment, and David Cassidy is 59 years old---and he has enough dignity not to do any of those stupid shows like "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here" or "Dancing With the Stars". This will not become a major story and they know it, which is why they keep doing what they like.

SLK,
I met Carrie Fisher, a couple days ago, after her one woman show on Broadway. I actually got her autograph for free.
I met Mohammed Ali when I was 10 years old, he was the biggest star around at the time, and that autograph was free.
I may have said this before but there are people out there that actually have supported David all these years that I feel something for.
I am glad that I only had good experiences.

I'm inclined to agree with what Singmedavid has posted.

Thanks CAO for your input. I didn't know the publicist was friends with Sue. It sort of puts a different spin on things. I hope they haven't been pulling the wool over his eyes (an English expression) just to keep the money rolling in. However David is a grown man and should maybe take more personal control over what he does AND take a more personal interest in his fans and what they REALLY want.

After this shambles he should take a real hard look at those who are supposed to be representing his best interests. He needs to find the courage to do something about it.

By the way his November 21 show is selling well regardless.

Maybe the tickets are being sold to fans who want to personally tell him what they think of his and his rep's stupidity, assuming they're allowed close enough for him actually to hear anything.

Funny you should mention rubber-necking. I actually started a post last week about our interest in this thing wondering if it was rubber-necking. Anyway, I scraped the post because I couldn't formulate my thoughts well enough to get beyond what we'd already said. There was an idea there and it might gel now.

CassidyFanNoMore: lol to your 2:36 comment.

SLK: you're right, there's no way this will be a major story. What David Cassidy does interests only his fans.

CFNM: forgot to THANK YOU for that link to Scott's second thread on this fiasco.

I'd like to add my two cents here. We all need to consider the fact that this statement from David was issued in the National Enquirer. Now seriously, can any of us really trust this magazine with the truth? Magazines of this sort have a way of not telling things as they really are. In short, they lie. My thoughts are that David may have actually said that he was sorry, but the National Enquirer no doubt edited that part out for the purpose of making him look even worse than he did the day of the autograph event. If this had been issued in a reputable magazine, I'm pretty sure that we would have read an actual apology from David. Tabloids like the Enquirer have a way of printing things out of context, which is probably why they made it sound like David was just making excuses for his behavior. They do what they do with the purpose of making people in show business look bad. I hope I'm making sense here. Anyway, those are my thoguhts on this situation.

Daydreaming David said...

Kelly, you raise a good point. To avoid any damaging editing, the apology should perhaps have been posted on DC's website. However, if we recall, there was a message on his website from his manager, Jo-Ann, about the whole incident a week or so after the fact and that message, blamed the FANS for the incident, not the organizers. Hmm. (Quoted that letter on October 26. Haven't checked to see what's still up on DC's website.)

cao said...

OK, DC could have also put the apology on his website.
DC could have sent an e-mail to Scott(comongethappy.com) or to the organizers of the autograph show that was trying to protect David.
None of this happened

The National Enquirer does take on stories the main street media doesn't take on such as the John Edwards case.

The people that DC is blaming this incident on is now using their platform to discredit David.
All he had to do was to say he was sorry.

They are not discrediting him. He is doing that to himself. the promoter from the autograph convention included the actual email correspondence that went on between herself and David's office. It shows that the claims by David's office that he did not know about the PF photos or the pre-ordering arrangement for fans who could not attend, are lies. They not only knew about the photos prior to the show, his publicist asked how to know how many fans will order them online, and said that David would personalize each one. It'a all there in black and white. He dug himself in deeper now.

Good post Midwest Fan. Not only is it all there in black and white, but if the event wanted to discredit David, don't you think they would have done it a month ago when everything took place? There were media people, celebrities, and thousands of fans there at the time everything happened and could have easily handed the story to TMZ or anyone else if they wanted to. Instead, the event's own publicist who was herself threatened with him saying if he didn't get his guarantee he would "ruin the show's reputation" tried to protect him and didn't do anything until AFTER DC's article came out, and even then said she didn't want to do it, but that she didn't have a choice because of the lies that were printed about the event. Ms. Moose's letter to JG wasn't even rude. It stated facts, showed the evidence that backed up those facts, and withdrew the support that she'd previously been giving them. It was probably sent to the other people so there wouldn't be any question of who is telling the truth, AND when she posted the proof on the C'Mon Get Happy forum, she even went so far as to apologize to the fans for the way the whole thing has been played out. That's not discrediting someone. That's showing which publicist has class.
