Idols, we've got idols.

This list might not give David Cassidy the warm and fuzzies, but it does keep his name in the public's consciousness and any heyday fan of his who comes across it is only going to have fond memories of those Cassidy-mania days. Not only that, but if that fan hasn't kept up with DC's career, this mention might prompt a quick look-up on the Interwebs or uTube after wondering, "whatever happened to him?"

And that, as we all know, is when the fun REALLY starts.

(Barry Williams at #14 with Donny Osmond at #19? All sorts of wrong there.)

Yes!!!! We are validated. :=)))))))

Did you read those comments by those two girls that didn't think DC deserved the spot he got? For shame!!! Surely they know not what they miss.

I also think Tom Welling is a major hunk. I would like to see him in more stuff besides Smallville. I don't watch a lot of TV, but I watched a few episodes just to see him.

I'm surprised Tom Cruise wasn't on the list. Or did I miss him in my suspense to find out who number one was?

Did you see this comment from Eddie:

"David Cassidy does not want to thought of as being from The Partridge Family or as a teen idol anymore. He gets very mad about that & sues people." Sues people?

Yes, I saw that comment from Eddie. Well, during "David's Sunday Disaster", DC did threaten to sue the show's organizers. This list was made by AOL TV so I think the idols were limited to actors with a role on a regular TV show. Someone posted that it was the characters that were idols. In a sense true, but for performers like Donny Osmond and David Cassidy, it was for their roles beyond TV. Donny was an idol long before his TV show.

And I think those two girls who didn't think David deserved the top spot have the same name ;-)

We always knew, didn't we? David will not appreciate this list, but look at the people there with him: Johnny Depp for example, what a talented actor! I remember him from 21, Jump Street, but I was too old (and too young!) for idols by then, so I just thought he was good-looking and talented.

Maybe he has had the carrier David would have wanted, since he managed to go from teen idol to serious actor.

singmedavid said...

Yes, MaeB, I thought of Johnny Depp's career as something David would have wanted for himself in terms of quality acting roles.

But David had so many choices of what he could do. Johnny doesn't sing, does he?

SingMeDavid,

Go rent Johnny Depp starring in Sweeney Todd.

I thought he did a very good job of signing in that.

Cassidy really was in a whole other league than most of the others on that list, wasn't he?!

Although if they included hearthrobs who weren't on tv, they really would have had to put Elvis and the Beatles in the #1 and 2 spots. Elvis really started it all with the screaming and the fainting.

Now, Barry Williams? Even at 6 years old I knew he was a dork. :)

Oh yeah, Johnny Depp, I still kind of swoon over him. His appeal is not just for the teenyboppers. :)

Thanks for telling me that cao. But does he have a voice like David's?

singmedavid,
I don't know whether you have seen the play Sweeney Todd but its about a murderous barber in London.
Depp played it with the right amount of creepiness.
Depp's voice is lower in register but it was very expressive.
I have never heard him sing before so I don't know how he would sound otherwise. I know he is a musician and has a band.

I was looking through old David article and I found out that he once auditioned for 'the Phantom of the Opera'.

I was reading on the 'Then and Now' site about how DC was suppose to appear in a short tour of 'A Christmas Carol" and then dropped out.
He was also suppose to take his 'Rat Pack' show to Broadway, and then DC dropped out.
It kind of appears to me going over things that people did want to work with David.
At what point things fell apart, I don't know.
I think Dc would have had then an opportunity to enlarge his scope as an actor and singer.

Thanks for that info cao!! You've given me an image though of Johnny Depp that I think answers my question. I think Johnny Depp is gorgeous. But I'm not that fond of the creepy characters he usually plays. Granted he's a great actor. But a little off the wall for me.

CAO,
You have finally posted something in one of your comments I agree with - "I don't know". Why do you waste your time on blogs if you have nothing good to say EVER? It looks like a personal issue, not a DC issue.

I have never heard Johnny Depp sing, but I knew that he does. Isn't one of the problems with David's carrier (for himself) that he never wanted to be a singer, but an actor? He states that clearly in his book. He mentions that he would he wanted to play the kind of characters that Dustin Hoffman has played.

But it would have been such a waste not to use that fantastic voice as a recording artist!

Thanks Mae. It was destiny that David's voice was discovered!
It does appear that he has pulled out of productions that could have given him a respectable career path.

However, I dont think it was anything to do with David not getting along with people but more to do with his worrying about his abilities and whether they would work and be successful. I do feel he has made decisions based on whether he would make money BUT I feel that is because it was important to him to provide for his family rather than greed. He would always be cautious after losing the bulk of his fortune. Going through that kind of experience is bound to affect your attitude to money rightly or wrongly.

British fan said...

Yeah! David was Number I. Just took a peek at the list. I will be happy for him on his behalf since David probably wont be. Oh well!

MaeB said...

British fan, what are those productions he has pulled out of? I have never heard about that before, and I don't think he mentions anything about it in his book. Would be interesting to know more.

Just things I've read on comongethappy and other sites, written by fans so don't know if they're completely correct. I was referring to a couple of stage productions he was said to have pulled out of. Can't remember any specific names. Sorry.Shame because theatre is definitely something I would like to see him do more of. He is very cautious I think, so there must be have been reasons behind it all.

David was suppose to take the Rat Pack show he did in Vegas to Broadway. This deal fell apart in previews. A few Years ago he was suppose to be in a small tour of a Christmas Carol, DC pulled out of it. I also remember DC was in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat on Boradway replacing Andy Gibb. David refuse to do much of the National Tour with the company becuase he said, HE was that driven.
On cmongethappy.com, Suzanne Crough (Tracy) said that there was suppose to be a new Partride family show in the late 80's. David held up the production of that becuase of money.

A lot of people careers haven't gone the way they planned. Johnny Depp always said he was more of a musician, Karen Carpenter was more of a drummer. The way show business is structure you have to take opportunities as they come up.

For what it's worth, I can't imagine that David Cassidy could be a better actor than a singer.

singmedavid said...

I agree Daydreaming David. Perhaps he could have become just as good? But I doubt he'd surpass his singing ability.

It does happen to a lot of people though, where there is a demand for one talent or skill that they have but not what they are passionate about, and they have to pursue their passions on the side.
