His drop-dead gorgeous smile is the same one he sported more than twenty years prior in the Weekend at Wembley documentary when he's looking up at the cheering crowd: an ageless, confident, sweet and heart-melting open smile. In this 1995 clip below, he talks briefly about putting on a Liverpudlian accent for his role in Blood Brothers. The sound isn't clear enough to make me feel guilty for not really listening ;-)

This is another of my missed moments.
I have seen Blood Brothers 3 times over the last few years. I have taken school parties and seen teenage boys with tears in their eyes, it's so moving.
I had no idea David was in this show way back then. I live about 50 minutes away from where this was filmed. At that time, I had two young children who would have loved to see the lights switched on and me, I would have gone to see him in Bristol without a doubt.

I knew he came to England with it but I thought maybe just the West End in London. Had no idea it toured. David was very much off my radar at that time and I did not develop an interest in live theatre until a few years ago. You know the deal, too old for rock/pop concerts, find another interest!
DC was still lovely in his 40s. The shag was gone, but he still had the smile, and a few crows feet that only added character. I think this YouTube clip is from about the same time...
He looks 35 in this Christmas clip. Seriously.
Yes, SLK, that Times Square clip is from 1993, just two years before. He was just about to start Blood Brothers on Broadway. He's so proud. Notice how he says here that he's distanced himself from the PF and can now laugh at it, etc.? He really doesn't "get" the appeal of the PF, does he? He says Nick at Nite laughs at the show and with it and it's the right spin, etc. but that's not the spin fans want for the show, is it?

This is beside the topic, but in some post that I can't find now I read that Jo Ann Geffen is one of the people behind the new book marketed on David's website. Made me think: what would happen if David fired her? Don't you think there would soon be a book with the title "The True Story about David Cassidy"? I don't know if I would be able to resist bying it just because I wouldn't want her to make money on him.
Or maybe she would be too loyal to do something like that, at least if she stayed friends with Sue.
Don't mix friends and money has always been a good advice and it seems he should have thought of that.
Yes she may have have him over a barrel with what she knows. I think many celebrities get their employees to sign confidentiality contracts so they can't blab. But if she's a friend of Sue's that may not have happenned.
All I know is I can see how happy and relaxed he is in that clip and the Times Square one, mainly because he was involved in worthwhile and respectable projects and thought he'd finally left the PF/teen idol stuff behind him.
British fan, I think you are right about the reason for his relaxed attitude in these clips being that he was actively involved in a new project "and thought he'd finally left the PF/teen idol stuff behind him". This being involved in a new project = David embracing his past would probably explain why he got on the Mondrian-bus to promote Ruby. I mean, he knows it's always going to be a reference point for people. He can be pragmatic.
Which reminds me, in the early 80s, David appeared on the TV game show "Win, Lose or Draw" hosted by Bert Convy (remember him? he guest starred on the PF a couple of times. Beautiful man. No longer with us, I only recently learnt.) Anyway, David's hair was blond at this time and I'm sorry, he looks like a totally different person. Unrecognizable to me, really. Not only was his hair very different but so were his clothes and his mannerisms. When introducing David, Bert and the announcer never once referenced the Partridge Family or any teen idol business, just said actor of the upcoming hit movie "Instant Karma". Honestly, if I had seen that show back then, I never would have made the connection that this David Cassidy used to play Keith Partridge. Never in a million years. I'd be like, what? David Cassidy? That can't be him. Must be another actor with the same name. Isn't that funny.

Why does it seem that Brits can more accurately imitate an American accent than the American's can imitate a British accent?
Daydreaming - I never liked the blond look either. In 1985 he released the Romance album in UK and had a hit with Last Kiss. He had the blond hair in a typical 80's 'mullet'. He looked ok I guess but a little feminine (dare I say effeminate). In his book he mentions it, saying they were looking for a change of image/look. Thank God he went back to his natural hair colour.

Sing me, I love seeing David try accents, so cute. I think some Brits sound quite good with American accents, Hugh Laurie (House) is doing well for himself
since he was well know in UK as a comedian. I always wonder if Americans pick up mistakes that we wouldn't notice.
American actors do generally master it quite well, like Renee Zellweger. They tend to do the standard English which is the 'posh' accent. We have many regional accents in Britain that are hard to master.

British Fan, Renee did a pretty good job I thought. Another is Lindsey Lohan in Parent Trap years ago. I actually wasn't sure which was her native English.
It's just that usually when I hear Americans trying for a Britsh accent, it still sounds like an American trying to talk with a British accent to me. Yet I don't hear the same inauthenticity when it's the other way around. And you would think that is where I'd pick it up, not the other way around.
Hugh Laurie, yes!!! I completely forgot he was a Brit! Very convincing. Also Toni Collette in Little Miss Sunshine (I know she's Australian).
It also bugs me when a non-southerner here in the States tries to mimic that accent. They usually can't pull it off that well.
To my ears, Hugh Laurie's accent in House is utterly believable. I'm Canadian though and I don't even pick up differences between the supposed differences between "standard" Canadian English and "standard" American English used by newscasters.
I think people from Ireland and the UK have an easier time with American accents than we do with theirs is that they see so many American tv shows and movies over there. They hear American accents all the time and it's much more familiar to them, whereas here, even the more common English accents are exotic.
Singmedavid, it's even worse when you're from New York and you have to hear the way all the non-New Yorkers mess up the accent here. And so many movies and tv shows are set in New York, so I have to hear it all the time! I think that's one of the reasons I liked the Sopranos---they were definitely authentic. (actually, many were from Long Island, where the accent is a bit different from New Jersey, but it was close enough)

Yeah SLK your're spot on. In the UK we've grown up on a diet of good American tv shows since birth! You get used to hearing American accents all the time. My earliest memory is watching The Man from Uncle. LOL.
My kids used to love Sesame Street. They learnt their alphabet from it. It was way cooler than British kids tv. They even called our dustbin a trash can. They went to school Americanised! LOL

Sesame Street is a GREAT show. All those lovable characters. My sister used to watch it. DD, did you watch it??? Is that why you're so smart??? Sesame Street is 40 this year!!!
