"All I Want is You"

Am I crazy to love this song? Now, really listen to it and don't watch the video. Tell me, is that David singing "All I want is you" at 3:13 and all those "ooh babys" and "honeys" at the end (e.g. 3:38, 3:58, 4:04 and 4:13)?

Crikey! Where did you find this?
Never hear it before - love it!
If David is singing those high falsetto notes I have even more respect for him. Didn't think that would be possible with the equipment he possesses (I'm thinking Castrato here). Hope it's not too early in the day to make such suggestions, but whatever.

On a side note those pcitures of David on stool, with accoustic guitar, wearing light blue shirt. Very intimate and sultry. I think he's seducing me through the lens.

Really listen, Daydreaming, WITHOUT watching the videos??? I don't know if that's possible but I'll try. LOL! ...It sounds like him to me!

Castrato? LOL!!! Oh!!!!!! We are on the same page with your last paragraph British Fan. I just want to grab him. You can still see the remnants of the young David here too. Devine!!!

That is amazing what he can do with his voice, Daydreaming!!! Thanks for posting this!!

DD, I apologize, but I want to pick your brain again. Is there a DVD of him when he's playing in that light blue shirt? I MUST have that one too. ;-)

Light blue shirt + David's old teeth. Yay!!!!!

D*mn not so sure now. Sure I saw an unruly tooth at 1:47. At least they're not filed down yet.

This song is from the 1991 Japanese release from Curb Records entitled "Best of David Cassidy". It is not a "Best of" album - it's mostly songs recorded in the late seventies that never made it onto an album - but there are, imho, a couple of stand-outs. This is my favorite. All I can say is "thanks Clodyne" ;-)

I suspect that his voice might be "all over the place" in a spot or two here, as SLK described it on "Frozen Noses", but I'm really enjoying his vocals on this track. Hope you'll chime in, SLK.

This with the blue t-shirt is from a German TV-Show in 1996.
I was there and David was great
and very nice. I could spoke with him, take picture and he signed his book. He sang I´m a clown.

This song reminds me of another song, and I can't remember what it is. It has such a 70s sound to it! I guess it's okay. It's certainly a lot more interesting than a lot of the later stuff he did.

(and yes, his voice is "all over the place", which to me is up and down the scale, lots of twists and turns, octave jumps, etc....much more interesting to me than a song with two chords and about three notes to sing over and over again...DC doesn't do too many of those, thankfully, because he's capable of much more than that)

Thanks German-fan! Darn, I was hoping for another DVD. Lucky you to have met him then and that he was so nice. He looks so good there. He probably had makeup on, right?

And yes, British Fan, I think you're right about the tooth at 1:47...The things that delight us...honestly. I'm lmao!!! Thank you...lol! I'm sure those "views" at the end didn't escape you either. lol!

Sorry for getting a bit off track here in your blog DD. lolololololol

I am so punchy - lack of sleep as British Fan noticed!

I'm happy to see some off my clips here and I'm glad you all like them !Lol...Marja!

Daydreaming - Is this record available to buy? Is it the one that David was angry about because it has recordings that he thought 'inferior' and were left out of his other albums or am I thinking of another compilation?

Singme - I noticed the views.

CherishDavid - your youtube videos are wonderful. Thank you very much for making them. Is it you I just added as a friend on Clodyne's site? Sorry I took so long. I don't really understand how these fansites work. It is the first one I have joined. You are all very creative ladies. At the moment I am trying to teach myself to add links. One step at a time eh?

CherishDavid, welcome! Thank you so much for your beautiful videos of David. If it weren't for generous souls like yourself, I would never have discovered the breadth of David Cassidy's talent. Glad you don't mind me embedding your videos here - I figure if the embed function is available on a video, the video owner doesn't mind. I'll happily credit you though if you prefer (for anyone who hasn't figured this out yet: if you double-click on an embedded YT video, it will take you to the YT page and you'll see the creator's name, etc.).

British fan, yes, this is the record David wasn't happy about. It's hard to find. Here's the info on it from the Downunder fansite. There was an American release of the same album but with less songs on it. That one was called "Classic Songs" and was released in 1998.

SLK, was the Japanese release the one you meant a while back as containing some material that showed David's vocal abilities? If so, I didn't check out the right one on Amazon when I reported that I agreed with a reviewer that he sounded like "Cher with a head cold". I was sampling the American version which left out the good songs instead of the ones where his sinuses sound blocked. And just to be clear: it's a good thing that his voice is all over the place? I took it as a negative the first time I read it.

Thanks for your comments everyone.

Daydreaming, you're funny! Yes, "all over the place" is a good thing, at least the way I was thinking about it. Good singers almost always have a wide vocal range (at least a couple of octaves) and can manage large jumps over the scale and still stay on pitch. DC sings nicely in tune, always has, even on the songs that are harder to sing (try singing Frozen Noses in the shower and see if you hit all the notes on-key---it's not easy to sing). A nice voice isn't the treasure it once was, unfortunately, with all the electronic programming wizardry they have in recording studios these days. So many performers lip-sync, and even in the studio, they have AutoTune, which corrects wrong notes, so you don't have to be able to sing to make a hit record. (I loved Aretha Franklin's response when some reporter asked her if she used AutoTune when she recorded, and she asked, "What's AutoTune"?)

The recording I was thinking of was Classic Songs, which I read was only released in Japan---Rhapsody has some of it available here, although some tracks are probably missing. It's definitely not his best work, and I see why he didn't want it released, and maybe it does sound a little like he has a head cold, but I think there are some really interesting tracks on it. Like "Dirty Work"---I never thought of him singing Steely Dan material, but I think those songs really suit him---they're very melodic, with great structure and sophisticated chord changes---"grown up" material, if you like. I wish he had recorded more stuff like that.

Thanks for your input, SLK. AutoTune explains a lot :)

BTW, is that DC singing those high notes at the end on "All I Want is You"?
