Surprising Cover

Don't know if anyone out there is keeping tabs on covers of Partridge Family songs but Weezer ("Buddy Holly") covered "I Woke Up in Love This Morning". Can't imagine how their grunge manifesto escaped my notice all this time. FWIW, I discovered Weezer's version after stumbling on Mark Chevalier's version. More rock, less grunge for Mr. Chevalier.

Which cover version do you prefer?

I’m like Mark’s better. His voice is stronger, the arrangement has more dimension to it, and I love the guitar solo at the end. I think Weezer’s version is very interesting, very heavy on the guitar which I do like, but I’m not that into the grunge genre. This was interesting! Thanks!

I agree - I was pleasantly surprised with Mark's version. And Weezer's has a definite grunge lament to it which gets tiresome fast. Still, who knew people were covering PF songs besides ITILY?! And within the last five years, no less!

I agree it's nice that other artists can reproduce PF songs and make them sound sophisticated. It is possible! There were some good tunes in the catalog which are all but forgotten. I dont know either of these artists, the Mark one sounds more like the original. It's good but hey, it's not Cassidy's young voice is it.

As for the Weezer one, well I like that. Guess it's the kind of music I always liked. I like the fact they've done something different with it, changed the tempo etc. I like covers that are different to the originals and bring something new to the table!
Thanks for finding these.
