Hiatus

A whole year of blogging about David Cassidy. Whodda thunk?!

When I started "Daydreaming David", I was a few months into my David Cassidy re-discovery journey. Was there enough to his story to provide material for a blog? I really wasn't sure but the urge to express my thoughts about him was too strong and I just plunged - into a public platform, no less. It was supposed to be a private blog but Blogger's permissions did not cooperate and it ended up a case of "The heck with it! Here it is, world, my little contribution to the blogosphere". Live dangerously, that's my motto. Ha!

Would anyone read it? I didn't think too much about that. My thoughts on David were practically overwhelming and I was about to burst if I didn't put them into words. I suppose I could have limited myself to email exchanges with other fans but a blog forced me to write on a fairly regular basis in a semi-structured manner. The wannabe writer in me reveled in that.

So, here I am today, dizzy from the realization that a year has passed since my first post. My obsession has abated. My thirst for all things DC has been quenched. As good a time as any to say, in the words of Keith Partridge via David Cassidy, on Canadian TV, circa 1977, "Adios, kids. It's been lots of fun."* I'll call this a hiatus - a break of undetermined length. Should the urge to share my musings or news about David Cassidy resurface, this blog will still be up and ready. Thank you to my faithful readers and contributors: Singme David, British Fan, Clodyne, SLK, UK Fan, CAO aka Racehorses, MaeB, etc. A special thank you to all those YouTubers who shared his work with us... Cherish David, SumerKis, Catgil, etc, etc.

*Wish this Peter Gzowski CBC interview was still on YouTube. I could embed it here for you all. Instead, here's "Could It Be Forever" because it expresses only too well his fans' sentiments. Once again, thank you SumerKis for another great video.

Hi Daydreaming David:
I think you're an amazing person and have devoted yourself so selflessly to DC and his fans! You will be SO MISSED. I hope you do know how many people you made smile, while having a happy break in their day going to a more innocent time, in David's music. He brings that to us when he performs. So, just wanted to say thanks for this place & hope you rest and return once in a while to let us know how you are & say hello, like in that PF song..
Take care, New Fan

Awww! I’m sad, but at the same time in awe of what a fantastic ride it’s been for me here. Thank you, thank you for providing such a wonderful forum for appreciating David's talent. I've learned so much through your cleverly crafted blog posts, things I never would have considered otherwise. The contributions by the other readers have been invaluable and enlightening as well! I have discovered a lot about music and the entertainment business in general as well as DC! It's also been a lot of fun… and funny! I cannot count the times I've been in stitches from reading your posts and your readers' comments! I’ve loved reading everything and having an outlet for my bursting enthusiasm. LOL! Reading your blog has been one of the highlights of my days and I am very grateful.

I, for one, will be continuing my DC journey. There's still a lot out there I have not been through and I am still hopeful to one day see him in concert. I haven't even been through all of your blog posts! I may even blog about it from time to time. ;-)

Best of luck in your future endeavors! Whatever they are, I'm sure you'll excel! I will miss you and all of your readers!

I'd like to echo the sentiments as wonderfully phrased above by New Fan and Singme. Thanks singme, you put my sentiments into far fewer words than I would!

Thank you DD for sharing your remarkable thoughts & insights with us. They have kept me amused and entertained for many months. I saw this post coming as I sensed your obsession had abated somewhat!

I think I will miss your blog more than most as we were so on the same wavelengh regarding DC, my parallel universe sister. You echoed my thoughts so completely as if they were my own but done with such style, panache and humour.

I've always compared my feelings on re-discovering David Cassidy to those of falling in love. That 'hit with a sledgehammer' feeling in your heart and becoming so obsessed with that person that they fill your thoughts so completely. But you cant keep that level of obsession and excitement sustained forever and over time the buzz wears off.

It's been great going through that journey with you and others, finding out everything we can about the man, discovering his wonderful music, videos, expanding our knowledge of his life since the 70's to date, analysing and criticising his talent and achievements. It's been a real blast studying this vastly underrated performer!

I'm still amazed at how David can impact on our lives so much with out some of us ever having met him or seen a concert, such is the power and aura of this man. What an incredible human being he is, warts and all.

His unpredicability is something that fascinates and amuses me. The whole complex package that has been both a remarkable talent and had more struggles to cope with than the average celebrity, tantrums, ego and all. Bravo David!

Good luck DD and keep up the writing! Maybe you could add an occassional blog from time to time, when something new surfaces, although I have a feeling David will be quiet for a few months, maybe he is quietly counting down to retirement. Whatever makes him happy is OK with me. There was a lot of fun in the discovery wasn't there? Even though the intensity is gone for me too, probably from absorbing all available knowledge to date, (plus lack of many opportunities to see him in concert) I will always have that bond created from my early teens and I will never tire of listening to David's music or checking for any news/blogs/stories on him, such is his uniqueness. For me, there will only ever be David!

Aww, thank you all for the sweet sentiments. Your kind words mean a lot to me.

Doubt any other performer can boast such eloquent fans as yourselves. It's been a pleasure reading your insights. British fan, I'm nodding along to your mention of David's power and aura - I can't imagine many other entertainers generating this type of interest. Oh dear, there's a blog post right there, huh? ;-)

SingMe, I'm looking forward to seeing your blog's evolution. Doubt I'll be able to participate in it as much as you in mine, but I'll be checking in.

I'm not going very far and will keep up with any comments or emails. In the meantime, I wish you all the best.

DD, thank you so much for writing such a fantastic blog. It's my favorite blog that I've ever read! My thirst for all things David Cassidy was quenched a few months before yours, but I kept coming back here anyway because I love the way you write and the way you always had something interesting to say. You really should be a writer for real. Think about it!

I will also miss the other posters here---this blog had the best DC discussions---no mindless fawning over him here, although we all appreciated his talent and appeal. It will still be a great resource.

Best of luck to you in whatever you decide to do in the future. If you end up doing anything else that is internet-related, make sure to put up a post here and let us know!

DD - I too am grateful for the time and effort you've put into making this a great blog, I'd say the best I've come across for things DC. I've been an intermittent poster but have checked it out regularly and will genuinely miss the messages from you and fellow posters. What has been so great is that honest opinions haven't been shot down in flames, as they are overall objective and considered, and from people who genuinely admire and care for DC.
Good luck and take care.
